Recently I went into the heart of Health Med. headquarters to ask Brett what inspired him to begin this ambitious project. What I was interested in is why he feels so passionately about learning and how he plans to build a world-class team totransform the mandatory requirements of continuing professional development (CPD) into a purposeful opportunity for healthcare professionals. An opportunity where those professionals can keep improving their patient outcomes, whilstbroadening their knowledge base and creating a platform for healthcare professionals from all disciplines to bridge the communication gap and collaborate effectively.

I started by getting to know who Brett is as a person, before diving in to understand why I believe this business is unique in healthcare today.

After spending the day with Brett to learn more about the ethos of the company (Health Med. Training Solutions) and their journey to where they are now, I got a glimpse into how passionate Brett is about making a positive impact in people’s lives through healthcare and education.

In our initial meet and greet with a cup of tea, we start talking about Brett’s past. At first glance he seems a little unsure, but speaking in a gentle, yet assertive voice, with a blended accent and a slight twang, stories of being born in Africa andhis travels and studies quickly begin to emerge.

From a young age Brett was engaging in various therapies. However, what interested him and it has to be said, enchanted me the most, was his extensive travels to over 40 countries. He recited stories of being in the jungles of Malaysia with indigenous healers, in Australia with an aboriginal ‘wisdom keeper’, learning shiatsu with a Buddhist monk and with a Canadian shaman and first nation healers.

New call-to-action

But that was just the beginning.

Brett continued through to more formal education studying neurophysiology and anatomy, quantum physics disciplines, yoga, aesthetic medicine, phlebotomy and most recently completed his Chinese medicine degree with first class honours and an award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Industry’. And this quest for learning really only touches the surface of what Brett has accomplished.

I begin to realise that Brett’s experience has been packed full of learning and integration of knowledge, in so many different ways.

As we continue our conversation, more of his compassionate nature is revealed and at different points, rather than simplygaining insight to write this article, I find myself immersed in his complex, yet intriguing journey.

Brett reiterates on a few occasions how in awe he is at the kindness people have shown him and his business andwhatever their success as a company, it will always be from a collection of people that goes far beyond their team.

After remembering why I have come, the conversation turns to his business and impressive team, comprised of leadingresearchers and clinicians, educators, business leaders, award winning accountants and technical wizards, all drawn tothe ambitious purpose of bridging healthcare disciplines, improving interdisciplinary communication and improving thesuccess of clinics – with the ultimate goal of nurturing the health and happiness of their patients’ lives.

Although this may sound almost poetic, the challenge to bring this product to market is substantial and littered with sceptics, whilst striving to bring a level of cohesion in a fragmented market. Brett recounts being fortunate to have been accepted on several incubators and accelerators, sitting with healthcare board CEOs and university heads of higher education, enabling him to extract as much value as possible from those conversations, to streamline and elevate the value proposition of his enterprise.

Brett goes on to say “now is when the fun really begins”, building the infrastructure piece by piece. This has taken dedication from his entire team; ensuring that the researchers and course providers are of the highest calibre, that their material is gold standard and that the enterprise architecture is fit for the long-term purpose. Underpinning this and crucially, that the eLearning designers create the most visually appealing, interactive and engaging platform for the learners to seamlessly integrate the information into their clinical repertoire. And all whilst balancing a young, expanding family.

Brett has to intermittently take calls throughout our conversation, which gives me moments of reflection, to mentally write this article. Hearing his story has inspired me to not only advocate for their business, but also to dedicate whole heartedly to my own endeavours. This start-up story is not unlike so many who are reaching for their dreams, which oftentimes, are far from the rosy, straightforward path that the press would have you believe.

Brett and his team at Health Med. Training Solutions are full of heart, their course content looks fantastic and truly setstheir eCourses apart.

The feedback from learners on the platform is indicative of their pursuit of excellence. I know as they begin to emergefrom the starting blocks to their growing collaborations with renowned universities, healthcare boards and leadingpractitioners looking to fulfil their CPD requirements, that they will go from strength to strength. I encourage everyone toget involved where they can, whether as a B2B or as an individual, to take an eCourse and see first-hand the quality theyoffer.

We are in a strange era filled with quick fixes and overly simplistic solutions. Health Med provides the opportunity to growboth as a person and as a practitioner, making your CPD requirements something of value to your clinic’s success andmost importantly, to the advantage of your patients, who deserve your excellence.
Whilst Brett shares his genuine appreciation for my time, for my part it has been a day worth remembering.
